Ideal first job for a career in the publishing industry

We are looking for a full-time receptionist/administrator to help run our busy office. It is essential that you are articulate, with clear spoken English and excellent IT skills. You should feel comfortable working in a front-of-office environment and be able to demonstrate a friendly and efficient manner. 

Key responsibilities 

  • Answering telephone and email enquiries
  • Dealing with incoming and outgoing post
  • Ordering stationery, general office supplies
  • Assisting with member mailings (post and email)
  • Maintaining the office diary 
  • Some website updates
  • Some events administration and room set-up
  • General office assistance, as required
  • Keeping the reception area and stationery cupboards tidy and organised 
  • Assisting the Membership department with filing; subscription enquiries; membership enquiries; processing payments; making amendments to our membership database

Person Specification

  • Professional attitude to work
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook and the Internet
  • Ability to prioritise effectively and to complete key tasks in a timely manner
  • Good telephone skills
  • Ability to manage own workload without direct supervision
  • Team player
  • Proven time management skills
  • Ability to see tasks through to the end
  • Proactive and flexible approach to work 
Starting salary: £18,500
